WW II Destroyer Documentation Project
Please help us defay the cost of a short video of ex-USS Steinaker, ARM NetzahualcoyotlThe Historic Naval Ships Association (HNSA), in collaboration with Tin Can Sailors and the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. (DD-850) at Battleship Cove in Fall River, Massachusetts, have lead an expedition to document ARM Netzahualcoyotl (D-102)/ex-USS Steinaker (DD-863). Three volunteers traveled at their own expense to Manzanillo, Mexico to document the last Gearing (FRAM upgrade) destroyer in operation. We hired an professional video crew and captured many of the sights and sounds of a WW II steam destroyer. The focus was on the engineering plant, 5" 38 cal gun, and on operations that required a trained crew or showed the nature of life at sea. The total budget was approximately $9,000 and does not include $5,300 worth of volunteer travel expense. Battleship Cove has lead with the first donation of $2,000 towards the cost of the video crew. Tin Can Sailors has provided the first $2,000 of the post production costs used to create a short video (project description and video). Other contributors have provided $500. The volunteers have fronted all the other costs and all their travel expenses. Your help would be appreciated. Copyright (C) 2006, Historic Naval Ships Association.
