The USS Constitution Museum serves as the memory and educational voice of USS Constitution by collecting, preserving, and interpreting the stories of “Old Ironsides” and those associated with her. This award-winning, educational non-profit welcomes over 400,000 visitors each year and provides a hands-on, minds-on environment where inter-generational groups can have fun while learning and exploring history together. The USS Constitution Museum’s mission is to engage all ages in the story of “Old Ironsides” to spark excitement about maritime heritage, naval service, and the American experience.
Located in the Charlestown Navy Yard, across from “Old Ironsides,” the USS Constitution Museum is a must see for everyone visiting Boston. Hands-on, interactive galleries let families of all ages explore the legacy of USS Constitution, America’s Ship of State. Swing in a hammock, furl a sail, holystone the deck, and face the enemy in battle when visiting the exhibit All Hands on Deck: A Sailor’s Life in 1812. Learn the causes and impact of the War of 1812 on our nation in the 1812 Discovery Center. Come explore the evidence and see how a young nation launched a legend in the Museum’s newest hands-on exhibit, Forest to Frigate. Enter the 1790’s to follow the story from the forest in which “Old Ironsides’” timbers grew to her launch as a fully formed frigate. Decide for yourself what kind of ship to build, meet men like Paul Revere who labored to bring her to life, and test your shipyard skills.
