What is World of Warships?
World of Warships is a free, online historical combat game from Wargaming. Participants command ships from massive naval fleets with some of history’s most iconic vessels. Every battle is a pulse-pounding experience with four classes of ships (battleships, cruisers, destroyers, and aircraft carriers) digitally re-created from historical references, all sailing on spectacular rendered environments. How does Wargaming and World of Warships promote naval history?
With an audience of over 145 million registered users, Wargaming brings its reverence for history to the masses. World of Warships collaborates with naval museums — many being HNSA Fleet Members — to produce AAA short-format documentaries, like our “Naval Legends” and “1:42” series.
How does Wargaming and World of Warships support veterans past and present?
Every year during May (Military Month), Wargaming runs events to promote veterans’ charities — donating a portion of proceeds directly to organizations like AMVETS, the National Military Family Association, and the HNSA member, Battleship Texas Foundation.
In addition, we collaborated with AMVETS to raise more than $350,000 for the restoration of the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor in 2014.
In 2016, we began a new project called “Virtually Inside the Warships,” which tells the stories of ships and the people who served on them, using 360-degree VR technology. Our first subject is with HMS Cavalier, the only surviving British Royal Navy destroyer from WWII.
As the profiles of Wargaming and World of Warships continue to grow, so too does our ability to educate our players about history and support the numerous historical landmarks, museums, and organizations that make up our naval heritage.
